The rights to build a 1GW floating wind farm off the coast of Scotland have been secured by Floating Energy Allyance

Through Crown Estate Scotland’s ScotWind leasing round, which ended Monday, the Floating Energy Allyance, which includes BW Ideol, Elicio, and BayWa r.e., has acquired the rights to create a floating offshore wind farm with an approximate capacity of 1GW off the northeast coast of Scotland.

The ‘option agreement’ covers the NE8 region of the Scottish Government’s Sectoral Marine Plan for Offshore Wind, which lies 75 kilometers northeast of Fraserburgh on the Aberdeenshire coast.

According to BW Ideol, an expert in floating wind foundations, the Allyance will now attempt to re-engage with key stakeholders, increase environmental studies, and advance design work as it draws closer to generating comprehensive ideas for the project before asking for approval.

By April 2022, the Floating Energy Alliance intends to have signed an Option Lease Agreement with CES.

On January 14, 2022, BW Ideol signed an engineering service agreement and a technology license agreement with the Floating Energy Allyance, assuring BW Ideol’s future earnings from the project.

“This victory confirms the pertinence of our co-development methodology and illustrates once again how BW Ideol’s unique value offer contributes to a successful and distinguishing proposal,” stated Paul de la Gueriviere, CEO of BW Ideol. We are certain that a credible execution and industrialization strategy, correct cost estimates, a proven and bankable technology, and the ability to produce our concrete floating foundations locally will all contribute to the successful completion of our project.
