Rising registration numbers for completely electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles are driving up demand for charging infrastructure in the private sector. Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) has effectively positioned itself in this market by consistently extending its product range and manufacturing capabilities. For example, only one year after its introduction, the 50,000th Energy Control wallbox has been supplied. Oliver Krüger, an e-mobility specialist and influencer from Hamburg, was presented with the anniversary charging station. Heidelberg’s sales performance demonstrates the company’s dominance in the German market for private charging infrastructure. In this fast-growing category, the corporation aims for a market share of more than 20%.
“We are actively helping to the mobility turnaround in Germany with our excellent electromobility offering. We are one of the leading suppliers nationally and globally in the expedited construction of the essential charging infrastructure, with 50,000 wallboxes of the current model already sold “Rainer Hundsdörfer, Heidelberg’s CEO, stated.
Since joining the market in 2018, Heidelberg has already sold charging systems in the six-figure bracket. For the German and European markets, Heidelberg now offers the Heidelberg Wallbox Home Eco and Heidelberg Wallbox Energy Control versions. To yet, the anniversary charging station has been largely offered in Germany, but it is gaining appeal in neighboring nations. Heidelberg will offer its charging solutions in France, Poland, and Hungary in the future, after market openings in Austria and Switzerland. The fourth wallbox production line at the Wiesloch-Walldorf plant was placed into service earlier than expected due to the rapid growth of demand.
Up to 16 electric vehicles may be charged at the same time with this smart charging system.
The Heidelberg Wallbox Energy Control with integrated load control allows many cars to be charged at the same time, making it an appealing charging option for apartment complexes, garages with multiple parking spots, and office and hotel parking lots. Several networked wallboxes transmit the available charging power to up to 16 hybrid or electric cars effectively and automatically thanks to local dynamic load control.
In the future, the e-mobility portfolio will be expanded to include a full range of smart home solutions, such as integrated charging solutions for commercial car fleets, parking garages, entire residential complexes, and municipalities. To that goal, the business is relying on its power electronics and software expertise, as well as acquisitions like EnBW charging station technology. Partnerships in these areas are also possible, as SAP has demonstrated with automated billing, invoicing, and payment.
